Julia composes for and performs in experimental theater. She works regularly with German stage director Marie Luise Hinterberger, most recently on Freedom Papers and on Odyssee am Untersee (The Odyssee on Lower Lake Constance).

In the summer of 2023 eco-activist-artist Aviva Rahmani commissioned Julia, playwright-librettist Catherine Filloux and film artist Lauren Petty to begin work on a new opera, Blued Trees, a family drama with the consequences of ecocide at its roots. Five scenes were performed twice in late August by soprano Lianne Cobel-Dispensa, mezzo-soprano Catherine Choi-Steckmeyer, baritone Ross Benoliel and pianist Joseph Vaz at the Soapbox Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. We are currently working on the next stage of the collaboration.
